Don’t forget you need to do user checks

What’s involved in a User Check?

A user check should be done by the user of an appliance before they use it; when the appliance is disconnected from the power source. The user should look for:

  • Damage to the lead including cuts and scuffs
  • Tape on the leads – remove it and check underneath
  • Coloured wires visible anywhere on the length of lead
  • Damage to the plug top or pins
  • Damage to the outer part of the appliance, and loose or missing screws and other parts
  • Signs of overheating such as burn marks
  • Wet or dusty equipment (may need drying or cleaning)
  • Cables trapped under furniture
  • Plugs should be easily accessible and not obstructed
